Our Sudanese friends helped lead the worship service on the first Sunday of 2010, including providing the special offertory music.

Sudanese Mission

Mission Statement

It is the purpose of this group to help ease the many difficulties that may arise for the Sudanese in Roanoke during their transition to life in America. We endeavor to help them acquire the resources necessary to rebuild their own lives and also the lives of those left in Sudan.

 Our priorities for 2010:

The Sudanese community has asked our help in the following ways:

  • Finding scholarship money for their young relatives still in Africa, so they can attend boarding school. This allows them to be in a safe environment and receive an education, room and board. Each child needs $200 for each of 3 semesters.
  • Assisting with college tuition and textbooks for those in the local community.
  • Completing paperwork to request family members still in Sudan be allowed to come to the U.S.
  • Helping with job networking, interviewing skills, and resumes
  • Tutoring in English, for the GED test, and for college classes

Members of the Sudanese community are looking for odd-jobs, like (but not limited to) leaf raking, gutter cleaning, furniture moving, basement/attic cleaning. They are establishing a fund to aid members in an emergency and to hold celebrations for new babies, weddings, etc. If you could use their help, contact David Nicodemus  or Sandra Whitt. Thank you!

A Sudanese Celebration!

On March 1, our Sudanese friends prepared for us a luncheon of traditional Sudanese dishes to help us experience the Sudanese culture and to benefit the Sudanese scholarship fund.

Kroger Gift Cards

The Sudanese Mission Group has a way for you to help our Sudanese refugees and their families get the education they want and need to rebuild their lives by simply using a Kroger gift card. For $5.00, we will give you a special gift card that you can use to buy $5.00 worth of groceries or gas at any Kroger. Then, when you continue to use it, we will receive 5% from Kroger. You get what you need and they get what they want. This is a win-win opportunity. Please help us to take advantage of it. Contact Sandra Whitt (330-3451 or Sandrarcpc@yahoo.com) to get your card or ask questions. Thank you for all your support.
